I got about half way through writing an extensive article about "The First Annual Miss Big and Beautiful Pageant" of Caye Caulker, Belize. I erased it. I'll sum it up and then unleash the few photos I did get on Facebook. Just click on the link to the right of the site. The event started about 90 minutes late and was hosted on the local basketball court.
The crowd was excited and the bigger they were the more the crowd showered the contestants with support. I was getting excited for awhile since they were getting bigger and bigger each time one stepped on stage. And then it ended, there were only three contestants. There were other side acts though. We didn't stay for the entire event but I'll bet the biggest one took home first place. Her "talent" was throwing darts and nasty dirty dancing.
The event had all the usual problems associated with small local events but I'll give them credit for going for this with true zeal. One thing to note is the crowd had a great time and so did we. Given some time and work this event will be around for awhile.
